Insta-Liner™

Pipe Relining Using Stainless Steel Links

Before

After

Insta-Liner™:
Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™ forms a composite structure with the damaged, or eroded host pipe and creates a new pipe even where the old pipe is missing. The new composite pipe combines the strength of the new liner with sections and pieces of the host pipe, all bonded together with a cementitious grout.
Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™ can be ordered with a 50-year, 100-year, or any custom designed service life.
In all cases, a 10-Year Manufacturer Limited Warranty applies for all materials.

Application:
Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™ is made up of short links of stainless steel sleeves, which are coupled together to create a continuous liner of a specified length.
Individual links are coupled together and are pulled through the host pipe by a cable from the opening at the far end of the host pipe. A continuous stainless steel liner is thus formed.
A specially formulated cement grout is then pumped to fill the annular space between the host pipe and the Insta-Liner™. The grout flows into all cracks and joints, joining together the Insta-Liner™ and all old pipe sections into a solid and unified structure.
The SST-316 Insta-Liner™ is selected for the purpose of providing a repair that lasts at least 100 years in a city culvert, sanitary and storm sewer environment.

 Benefits of Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™ Method

- No excavation
- No traffic holdups
- No damage to Utilities
- No expensive installation equipment needed
- Only one crew of three persons is needed to perform the repair
- Repair Segment Installation requires very short setup and installation time
- 100-year long service life
- 10-Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty

Other Benefits of Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™

Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™ has the following specific benefits:

- Technical staff offers a one day training seminar from Link-Pipe Inc.
- Just three persons can do the job. Additional labour would increase the productivity.
- The equipment needed is very simple and readily available.
  • A winch with ¼-inch cable and capacity to pull with a force equal to half the weight of the SST core of the Insta-Liner™.
Note: In case the culvert is made of CMP, it is recommended to use 1/2-inch PVC pipes, which act as sliding rails to make the Insta-Liner™ installation easier, especially when protruding bolts may be present.
  • A grout pump available from many tool rentals and also Link-Pipe Inc.,
  • 1-¼-inch Grout hoses of required length,
  • Set-up involves coupling the links and passing them into the host pipe. The coupled segments are pulled through the host pipe, forming a new liner. A 30-meter (100-ft.) length culvert can be re-lined in under one hour.

  • NOTE: The liner is also suitable for short repairs. Coupled with expandable Spot Repair Sleeves, e.g. GROUTING-SLEEVE™. This lowers the cost of short repairs by avoiding pipe sections that need no repair.
- Standard Equipment for Sewer Work is usually required:
  • CCTV for inspection before and after work
  • Vac-Truck for cleaning before re-lining

Installation Process

- Inspection:

Prior to commencing any work in the pipe, an inspection is needed to determine what conditions in the pipe are encountered and what scope of work has to be done.

- Cleaning:
The host pipe needs to be cleaned of any debris, intrusions, deformations, mineral deposits, etc.
- Installation:
One at a time, the Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™ links are coupled together and are pulled into the existing host pipe by a winch from the far host pipe opening. Often, only pulling by hand is required.
End-Sealers: Once the Liner has been installed, End-Sealers are inserted at each end of the new Liner. This prevents the grout from escaping when it is pumped into the annular space.
The Grout is then injected into the annular space, either through a Plug into the individual sections, or by pumping through an end nipple throughout the length of the liner.
- Grouting:
End-to-End: This is a very convenient method of grouting. Only one point of entry is required which can be located at either end of the original host pipe.

The Relined Pipe:
The new pipe has the strength of the original sound host pipe and much more. Under 10-psi grouting pressure, the annular space and all host pipe cracks are filled by the cement grout. The LINKcRETE Grout has enhanced adhesion properties, due to Link-Pipe proprietary additives. The cracked or corroded host pipe pieces are bonded together. Furthermore, should there be any cavities in the soil around the host pipe, the grout flows out to fill all accessible spaces. The end result is a very strong and sound new pipe.

Technical Data

MATERIALS:
Standard Link-Pipe Insta-Liner™ segments are made of SST-316, or SST-316L.
For special uses, e.g. industrial chemical conveyance, suitable alloys can be specified at the time the Purchase Order is issued. The owner is suggested to consult Link-Pipe engineers before selecting a suitable alloy for industrial applications.
The Standard LINKcRETE™ grout specified by Link-Pipe to fill the annular space, is Portland Cement based and has proprietary additives that incorporate chemical resistance and create the required bonding characteristics.

Chemical grout is an alternative and can be used with Insta-Liner™ to fill the annular space with the host pipe. It expands and penetrates through the cracks into backfill, and Insta-Liner™  creates a complete restoration of the damaged pipe lasting at least 100 years. Chemical Grout is tested and meets ASTM D-1010, D-1638, D-3574, D-412 & D-1042 standards.
