Lateral
Grouting Sleeve™
Lateral
Grouting Sleeve™
Installation
Sewer deterioration at the location of a lateral can be repaired using the
Grouting Sleeve™ with a pre-cut lateral opening.
The following tools are required to install the sleeve:
Communications devices (cell phones or walkie-talkies), the lateral locating tool, and locator cable are also required:
The locator cable is first flushed down the lateral and brought to the surface at the downstream manhole.
There are a few exceptions to the preparation of the lateral
Grouting Sleeve™ compared to the normal procedure.
All of the grout supplied with the sleeve must be evenly distributed into the black gasket.
The locator is then inserted
into the lateral opening of the sleeve and connected to the
locator cable.
The plug is inserted into the sleeve.
…and inflated slightly to grab onto the sleeve. A short cable attached to the locator is connected to the plug so that the locator can be easily removed after installation. We suggest positioning the lateral cutout to be at the same angle on the plug as the lateral opening is to the host pipe. This will make it easier to align the sleeve to the lateral.
The wheels are reattached to the plug and the assembly is ready to be inserted into the manhole. Communication with the person controlling the tension on the locator cable is necessary to ensure that the cable does not become tangled. As the sleeve travels down the pipe to the damage location, the tension on the lateral cable must be maintained.
Once the lateral locator is in line with the opening, the plug is deflated to loosen the sleeve and allow the locator to be pulled into the lateral.
When pulled properly, the lateral cutout should align with the lateral to +/- 1/8”.
Tension must be maintained on the lateral cable as the sleeve is inflated and locked into place.
The tension is released and the plug is deflated and the
installation is inspected.
When all the locks are engaged,
the installation is complete and the equipment can be removed.
